Welcome to citywoman

Thanks for the "sweet night"!

16 April, 2013 - 11:38

After a long week of work, a sweet night was just what I needed, and it did not disappoint.

The night began by receiving VIP treatment at the door of Scots Church - a genuinely warm welcome, drinks and the first of Kate's beautiful desserts served on the night.

It was a great privilege to hear firsthand of Kate's Masterchef journey. What I found fascinating was the fact that the judges had the most amazing tastebuds. Since the food would have gone cold by the time the judges tasted it, they were still able to properly judge the cooking as they would go around tasting the food while it was being cooked, and they had developed a taste memory over the years and could tell without tasting what ingredients work well together!

A major highlight of the night was to taste the trio of desserts which Kate demonstrated for us. I especially enjoyed the strawberries in dessert wine - it was fruity, light and refreshing, and easy to make - even for someone like me who should only be allowed in the kitchen to wash the dishes!

Kate herself is a wonderfully inspiring person - effervescent and enthusiastic, but also warm, genuine and thoughtful. I thought it was lovely of her to be so open in sharing her personal life with us. It was interesting that although she grew up in a Christian family, she had her doubts, asked big questions and decided to explore various religions and examine the factual evidence supporting them. I found it thought provoking how Kate described her faith as being more like an arm to her rather than a watch which she could put on and take off at will.

Altogether, it was a brilliant night and I'm really looking forward to the next Citywoman event!

A "sweet night" with Masterchef Kate Bracks

20 February, 2013 - 11:01

Choosing to pursue what we are passionate about - and succeeding in the endeavour - really is "the sweet life". Kate Bracks was the winner of Masterchef 2011 and is in many ways enjoying the sweet life now.

One of Kate's particular passions is desserts, a trio of which she will demonstrate and we will eat on the night. She will also share insights from her remarkable Masterchef journey. How did her husband cope with the kids for so long? Do they always eat like kings and queens at home? Her other great passion is to speak of her faith in God. We'll discover the inner strength of this effervescent Masterchef and how her secret to the truly sweet life could be ours.

Hosted by City Bible Forum and St Andrews Cathedral.
